A Branch Through the Roof

A fable for adults

a branch through the roof

An edition of 10 hand-made books illustrated by the author was printed in 2000.

Synopsis

Rosamund as a girl was told by her departing mother to wait and so for many, many years, she did just that. When a storm breaks a branch from the oak tree, which punches a hole in her roof, Rosamund has to face the reality that she is no longer a girl, and that her mother is not coming back... and so therefore she has to start living her life.

Throughout the day she meets a young prince who checks in to see if she needs saving, a ram who loves her thick green grass, and a tiger who loves to eat rams.

She learns that she has the power within herself to be happy and healthy, that she doesn't need saving, and that life--like her--is really quite beautiful.

The Art of Levitation

Young Adult Science Fiction

Approx 50,000 Words

Synopsis

Kenny is the last of a line descended from Mogens Jensen, the colony's founder who discovered how to levitate and made that knowledge public. Three hundred years after the colony's founding, society has evolved into two sharply divided classes: those who float, and those who walk. At the testing Kenny discovers that he can't levitate.

Not being able to levitate casts his family to the lower class of Walkers. To avoid the brainwash that accompanies the downgrade, Kenny escapes with the help of a cousin, long banished as a walker.

During his escape, he discovers that there is no running away -- from his problems, from his country's -- and that to fly he has to be true to himself and to the voice within him. And by doing that, he can save himself, free the walkers, and avert a looming war.
